Reads to me like they suspect foul play of an undetermined nature.
Euphemisms are strange and funny--this news story not funny, I know, because of what may have happened to this poor guy--but the euphemistic words are funny when you stop and think about them, which I rarely do.
Met with misadventure. You got me thinking.......
I met with Miss Adventure last week to discuss the future of the movie I had in mind for her to star in, that I'd spent a decade and a half holed up in my little walk-up boarding house writing, all in anticipation of this very day last week when I would meet with her. A kind of oddball, low budget indie thing about a quirky little town where the traditional beauty contest has this twist to it, you know, a twist where all the contestants have to show that they are adventurers of a kind. Miss Adventure was about to describe to me her particular brand of adventure when........
