I don't know how to get you to California, just wanted to say that I believe I'll be working towards the same goal during the next year - pulling up roots & moving on (probably in the opposite direction towards Florida).
I haven't figured out a master plan but I know you can handle this type of important & life-changing process the same way you deal with any big involved project - you break it down into small manageable steps.
And sure, keep us posted. What you learn can help others.
