Perhaps it was the IN-breeding that caused the Royals to be so disfunctional? Someone should have taken a dive into that gene pool. However, in the real world, too many people use many illnesses as excuses for their behavior. Alcoholics, drug addicts, pedophiles you name it. Conversely, there are almost as many people who blame themselves for everything that they do in life when, in actuality, it isn't something they can control. As with many barometers of what's "normal" or acceptable in our current (or other historical) society, one's ability to control one's actions, and be accountable for them has no real objective measure. Those who would use it as an excuse, will. Those who feel they have no excuse will suffer more.
