Hey,
I've been looking into becoming a librarian myself.
I wanted to let you know that, in conjunction with your computer experience and knowledge, I think you can have a financially successful library career.
I'm acquainted with a man who has a similar group of skills. He is a Distance Education and Learning librarian at a major university, is often courted by other universities for work, and admits to having more money than he knows what to do with. His job mostly involves helping to set up the Distance Ed. program software, purchasing computer programs and distance ed. lit., and helping professors. He did have to start from the bottom at a small library and work his way up for a few years.
So, all in all, you may not be giving up much financially and will be able to have a more satisfying job.
