I had this problem when I mixed Ambien with lorazepam (Ativan) and also when I mixed Ambien with ibuprofen (Advil). When I first started Depakote, this was a common occurrence, but it diminished with time.
For me, the best way to force my sleep to a particular cycle (like curing jet lag) is to take 10 mg Ambien combined with 0.25 - 0.5 mg of lorazepam. I am out cold for a minimum of 10 hours, sometimes extending to 12+ hours.
