Does the spongy drawer lining help? I think mine are lined, if at all, with contact paper. And full of those little divider thingies that may or may not be the right size. My husband is currently threatening to ditch all table linens to have more room for utensils.
And one cupboard has not been in any use at all since we discovered a hole near the drain that a rodent had gotten through. It never seems quite clean enough, even though we plugged the hole years ago. Sometimes there just isn't enough bleach in the world to get rid of the contamination of knowledge.
