I think it really just started to hit home. He was talking about college in such a way that it was clear that he didn't mind being a plane trip away. And I know that's healthy. I really do. Better colleges. And, as you say, I'm glad he isn't wanting to be at home all the time.

I just have the feeling that once he leaves, he'll be gone for good. The job market isn't great around here. A visit or two now and again. Maybe keeping up with the grandkids by facebook.

It's depressing. I know it's our privilege to have the care and raising of then for a short time. But I love him, and I think it's also fair to mourn the vast reduction in time with someone you love.

The important thing is that I don't let him know how I feel.
