What I find helpful is that we talk about the here and now rather than speaking about why I am how I am. In traditional therapy I sit on a couch and talk about how my Mom did this and my Dad wasn't there and that's why I feel the way I do. That goes on and on, I know enough about my family to write a book, I need to gain life skills in the present to help feel less depressed and I feel like ct provides me that outlet....I also focus on what makes me feel good rather than what doesn't make me feel good (which is what I find myself talking about in traditional therapy). i have been seeing my normal therapist for 4 years now, I think that it's time for a new one.
