celexa versus lexapro sedation, histamine affinity

Posted by creepy on November 13, 2009, at 11:59:24

Ive been on celexa for several years now and its been very helpful with depresion. The problem is that in the last year its begun to sedate me terribly. Ive tried lowering the dose from 40 to 20 which helps very little. Ive tried adding an NRI to wake me up, but the effect doesnt last.
I was able to find a couple things in psychopharm books about this. One said '10 to 30% of patients on celexa long-term will experience sedation' and an affinity chart which showed celexa does have some meaningful affinity for histamine. When I lower my dose my allergy symptoms return, so Im fairly sure it does.
My question is, does anyone have a link to affinity data for lexapro and histamine? is the sedation due to the 'inactive' half of the citalopram isomer?
Im trying to think of whether paying for escitalopram is worthwhile. The difference in cost is fairly substantial.
