As much as we wish our children would be nice to everyone, it is really hard for kids to make moves that push them outside their peer groups. Your daughter might have had a number of reasons for lying to this other girl, including not wanting to hurt her feelings.

I think I would talk to her about lying and being brave enough to admit not wanting to be with someone. But I don't think you can punish her for having a good time because someone else is feeling bad for having been excluded. She *is* only 12 afterall. And it wasn't even her party right? So she wasn't in charge of the guest list.
