I believe there are two main reasons why us Westerners are not taking advantage of Chinese herbals medicine:
a) the theory is not something we can quickly read about and grasp
b) diagnosis, prescription and supply of herbs relies on seeing a TCM doctor, not always possible or something we deem as worth shelling out the bucks for due to its lack of marketing or strange foreign image
Enter folk medicine. Simple teas that only contain 2 or 3 herbs. Jook/Zhou - rice porridge with herbs. Chinese dietary therapy.
While you still need to form a general background in the concepts of Chinese medicine, I think everyone can comprehend foods that are hot, cold, dry, damp, etc. Since we have to eat 3 times a day and can drink tea whenever we want, folk remedies and dietary therapy are ways we can learn the basics of energetic medicine and take some control over our internal environment. Those of use that have inconsistent results with medications, supplements, have strong side effects, should seriously consider why that might be.
