Alpha Lipoic Acid and Schizophrenia

Posted by Lao Tzu on February 21, 2010, at 10:41:44

I've been taking Alpha Lipoic Acid for about two weeks now in addition to my other vitamins and I've had some surprising results. For one, I tend not to obsess over little things. My daily hygiene practices are improved, and my socialization is better, i.e. making more eye contact and smiling. I started off with 50mg per day and worked up to 100mg. I'm feeling 100mg might be too much because of the energy. If you want more energy, take 100mg per day. It supposedly improves mitochondrial function. I can't seem to take more than 100mg per day. It is a very powerful antioxidant, as it recycles vitamin E, C, and glutathione. Antioxidants are very important for bipolar and schizophrenia due to oxidative stress. It is a great supplement to add to your vitamin regimen! It is subtle, but it is helpful.
