When I use benadryl (diphenhydramine) as a sleep aid, I usually find that Alpha-GPC or CDP-Choline, or galantamine, in the morning on an empty stomach will defeat the cognitive impairment.

I try not to use benadryl as a sleep aid for extended periods, though, for various decent reasons, the cognitive impairment (and probably impairment of sleep quality, especially in the latter half of the night -- of course, missing sleep entirely is worse) being one.
