Copper and depression?

Posted by LizinManhattan on April 8, 2008, at 22:07:00

Hi,
Should I be worried about consuming too many nuts/nut butters because of the copper content? In December I found out that I am allergic/food intolerant to lots of foods. Nuts, particularly cashews, have become my go-to snack/treat as have nut butters (macadamia butter is the best!). Now I'm worried that I'm raising my copper levels and worsening my depression (although some seem to think copper is just a trait marker for depression and not a cause of depression). Could I just take a zinc supplement to try to even out my ratio, or is it actually the amount of copper in my body that's a problem as opposed to the ratio between the zinc and copper?
Thanks so much!
Liz
