Hi there,
I have been on 12mg of Emsam for a while and it seems to be helping out with energy and "resiliance" although I am still struggling with longstanding negative habits, thoughts, and self-esteem issues.
Having read both Robert Sapolsky's book on stress and more recently, Forgive for Good, I am curious as to how much the role of stress has played in my biologic and psychologic feelings of depression. I am excited to put into practice some of the cognitive techniques from Forgive for Good that hopefully will help tune down some of the ruminating that occurs when I feel such stress related anxiety over things, but I am also concerned that since this has been an issue for so long, I need to look at pharmacological interventions for this particular issue.
Does anyone know if Emsam has any direct anti-cortisol action? I've heard that DHEA is a strong stress antagonist but it's also a hormone that I should be careful with.
In addition, what other options, especially for those who are also on an MAOI like Emsam, do people have to tone down the glucocorticoid system. I'm not as much interested in a beta-blocker or anti-anxiety agent, as one of my biggest problems is motivation and energy.
I feel I have suffered for so very long and been on so many medications for my atypical/bp2/refractory depression, and I can't bear to have my life on hold any longer, waiting for a solution when I only see my psychiatrist once every three months. I do not want to live my life as I have been living it and I am desperate for some change, even if it is helped/caused by something that comes in the form of a pill.
