I've found that GAIA is consistent and lists the amount of kavalactones per dose. This is important so you're not just getting some pill that lists how many mg at most of Kava.
The liquid form of GAIAs extract is potent.
http://www.gaiaherbs.com/herb_of_the_week.php?id=6Only the first four are worth value.
However, 1) I have a high tolerance due to crosstolerance from benzodiazepines and no longer get the "giggles" from occasional use of Kava, which I can best describe as a very mild Xanax towards the alcohol spectrum, and 2) the liquid form is intense concentrated herb and a drop means a drop in kavalactones and you will have to be prepared for a cardboard-ginger taste which is about what I can sum it up.
I would not take it regularly due to hepatotoxicity issues, especially if one is on polypharmacy. An occasional use is probably but inconclusively not harmful.
