SJW - hypericum; depression, anxiety isolated?

Posted by sdb on July 23, 2006, at 16:46:46

In literature there are cases of manic symptoms or patients with more anxiety or panic attacks after starting sjw (hypericum). Possibly these cases are somehow similar as starting with ssris in the first weeks.

Personally I read about differences of sjw brands normally used concerning anxiety. Some brands are said to be more activating and other are said to be more "anxiolitic, calming". Kira, Perika...

There is the interesting question if the anxiolitic action of sjw is due to the diminished depression or the anti-anxiety property is isolated, thus somehow like a benzodiazepine combined with a antidepressant.

Any thoughts, personal experience?

Thanks for sharing valuable information, sdb
