I think the cognative side effects are due to the general action of lithium. Inhibiting PKC lowers CREB and dampens overall nerve activity.

CREB enhancers have been shown to improve general cognition, so I would suspect that the opposite would decrease cognition.

I think the general feeling of dumbness it induces (I hate that feeling so much) is part of the antimanic effects of the drug.

I have not found a mood stabalizer that does not make you very dumb.
