DHEA, other supplements, and sexual dysfunction ?!

Posted by cache-monkey on December 31, 2004, at 10:45:42

Hey folks,

I started a new medication and a few supplements a couple of weeks ago and have been experiencing some problems with sexual function as of late. This seems to be both loss of libido and erectile function. (I'm male.) I'm trying to figure out which is the likely culprit. Here is a list of my additions:
* calcium/magnesium/phosphorous (1000mg/500mg/500mg) supplement at night
* DHEA (25 mg) in morning
* fish oil (1 g) t.i.d.
* light therapy in mornings
* Lamictal 12.5 => 25 => 50 mg

As far as the supplements go, I've heard conflicting things about DHEA. I guess I've read in various places that it can be good for sexual function. But someone on the main board pointed out that it might inhibit libido. This, apparently is because it might convert to estrogen as well as testosterone. Does anyone know anything more about this?

Also, is it possible that any of the other supplements are causing the sexual issues? Any info is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
cache-monkey
