Hullo,

You'll get a lot of good information concerning your questions from the book, "What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Premenopause" by John R. Lee M.D. The book talks about avoiding oral progesterone, [i.e. Prometrium 100 and 200mg capsules] due to sharp spike of hormone, then sharp decline; the liver can only handle so much and excretes much of the oral progesterone so much of it is wasted; the liver can't keep up with the large dose found in oral progesterone, and so cannot get rid of certain metabolites of progesterone, such as pregnanediones, pregnanolones, and pregnanediols. The book also suggests different cremes and how much progesterone is actually in each product. They state the daily dose should be 15 to 20mg progesterone for transdermal creme. The book also addresses ovarian cysts, as well as many other hormonal topics.

Another quality creme is Femgest progesterone creme in a 2 oz or 57g container. It's sold as buy-one-get-one-free for $22.00 at our local health food store.
