FWIW--
I had been using Carlson's (liquid) fish oil for about 8 months, but recently, because I was travelling, I switched to a capsule form.
I had preferred the Carlson's for several reasons: it packs an EPA punch stronger than any of the capsules (about 800 mg per teaspoon), no fishy burps, and no animal gelatin capsules.
But not being portable was the nagging problem.
Anyway, after using the capsules for a few weeks of travel, I got used to them--yep, fishy burps and all. I decided not to go back to the liquid because the capsules are more convenient for taking mid-day, and I've gotten used to them. The fishy burps seem to depend on what foods I took the capsules with--I haven't paid attention to which foods, but I have noticed that sometimes I get the fishy burps and sometimes I don't, so I am guessing it is related to the foods.
And, yes, I have to take a lot of capsules to get the desired amount of EPA per day--I have been taking about 12 per day for a total of about 3700 mg of EPA per day. I was probably getting more via the Carlsons, but I don't know because I wasn't really measuring it--just swiggin from the bottle. But the amount I'm taking seems to be good for me right now.
As for the gelatin capsules, I WISH they were not animal based, but I've decided I can deal with it.
