Understanding cause and effect does not establish guilt. Besides, there would have been a far more extensive past of cause and effect that did not involve you, and that would have brought him to that point anyway. The act would be his and not yours.
You are not responsible for the interpretation of your words by all who read them.
It really is good to be cautious when interacting with someone who is in a suicidal state. Unfortunately, you never know what will act as a trigger for a suicide. It could be almost anything otherwise benign, depending on a person's history; a history that you could not know. So, do not look to pin some sort of exclusivity to any words that you chose to write. Too much goes into the act of suicide such that one cannot look for ultimate guilt in the writing of a few words.
That's the way I see it, anyway.
