i just don't agree with such long blocks. people suffer from it. the board suffers from it. and people are severely missed, you know?
perhaps, instead of such lengthy blocks, the blocks could (just a theory of course) jsut go for so long. like, instead of having blocks that continue to build up, causing such lengthy blocks, maybe there could be a cap on blocks. like 2 months say?? no blocks longer than 2 months.
i'm not trying to be disrespectful to people who are hurt, and a block results, you know? i understand (trust me, i've been the target of 'mean' comments. i hope that's civil to say!!) that people are getting hurt, and that we should have some sort of block or something, so the board doesn't get out of control. but, blocking someone for a year, or even more, just leads to more blocks. either from those who protest, or those who return under a different name.
people here have issues. i think that's pretty much the point of us being here. but blockign someone for a year, for a post that will have been forgotten in a month seems unreasonable to me.
i fear these extended blocks don't dissuade people form being uncivil. instead, it seems that people become outraged at the severity.
i don't think blocks are the answer. i think we need to figure it out ourselves. we're all (somewhat) reasonable adults. i'm sure there's a solution. i jsut don't have it right now. and i really hate to see people who need help getting turned down because of one offhand comment. even if these comments are persistent, raising the amount of time someone can't post isn't the answer to me. i think it's up to the poster who's been deemed 'uncivil' to figure it out. and it'd be a whole lot easier to figure it out, if they had a voice.
just my 2 cents. but, can you break a dollar? :)
i love you fancy pants. take care of yourself!
