I did a restart of my computer, and have been able to chat since.

I did try re-registering, but obviously I'm already registered! I also tried closing the chat window and then re-opening it, but it just showed the log-in screen and listed me as one of the people already chatting!
Luckily it's working now, hopefully it's a one off, but I'll post if it happens again.
