I do try, when I can, to certainly not block. And I do try, when I can, to help people comply with the civility guidelines. Unfortunately, my attempts sometimes just make things worse. I think in general those friendly warnings seem to come better from others, and I certainly encourage people who see someone having problems with wordings, or perhaps getting very upset, to contact them and offer their services as civility buddy. But again, it doesn't always go well and there is always the risk of feeling hurt at the response.

I've been around since 2001, not as long as the old timers, but long enough to know that things aren't the same now as they were then. Or when I signed up to be a deputy in "escalating" situations when Dr. Bob wasn't around, either. Dr. Bob is not as involved on a day to day basis now. I don't know whether it's temporary or permanent.

But I don't think you can accurately compare now to then.
