Well what happened is I took part in a study. It was for people with alcoholism and there reaction to IV midazolam by recording eye movements. The psychiatrist interviewed me first. I was told that there was another study starting and they were looking for social anxiety sufferers to take part. I jumped at the chance. The idea was to put the patient on an SSRI and to test their dopamine levels at different times throughout their treatment.
But I had tried all SSRIs so instead they took a different approach with me.
1st I was placed on gabapentin for 3 weeks but it did nothing. There was an Australian doc there at the time and he put me on phenelzine. WOW! This stuff kicked *ss! It was only after a couple of yrs that i had problems with it. Lack of motivation etc. After a year under the care of Simon Davis and several augmentations that he got stuck and so handed me over to his boss- Prof NuttI think he got sacked from the clinic which closed down. I was then passed over to a different hospital to see Dr Andrea Malizia. And this guy ain't afraid of the big guns lol.
He is an expert in stubborn cases of depression and anxiety.
If I were you I would forget the distance involved and arrange to see Dr Malizia in Southmead Hospital. If you babble mail me I can send you his secretary's number and request a call back. Just coz it's Bristol the train ticket is nothing compared to your mental health.
Good luck!
