With all due respect to your son, that sounds like the over simplified med marketing that came out around the time I started AD's.
that these chemicals were expertly honed to reverse whatever defect your brain has assumes that the doctors understand A) how the meds REALLY work and B) how mental disorders REALLY work.
It also removes consideration of any psychological processes from our condition.
I am right there with you with the loss of self and frustration of "is this me, my disease, the medication, or a side effect?" that makes it so hard to choose a treatment and move on with life.
I've been on so many things that make me feel "different" or even "better" in different ways, but I think the idea that one of them is changing the magic fuse in my shorted-out brain is attractive yet naive.
Please forgive my negativity. My luck with medication has been spotty at best.
