parnate sleep problems: any advice?

Posted by g_g_g_unit on March 7, 2012, at 22:48:08

Here's how it's been so far:

On 10mg, I could fall asleep relatively easily at around midnight, unaided, and then get up at 8am. This was near-miraculous because I don't think I've functioned on 8 hours sleep since, say, high school.

At 15mg, I suddenly found that after falling asleep, I would wake up 3 hours later and just lie there.

I also complained to my psychiatrist that I was experienced inter-dose withdrawal and became very depressed during the evenings. So he suggested I add in a four 5mg dose at 7pm.

So now I'm taking 10mg at waking, 5mg at noon, and then 5mg at 6-7pm.

The first night on 20mg, I used Doxycalamine and fell asleep without difficulty. The second night I fell asleep on my own and was up 3 hours later. Last night, I took 4mg of cyproheptadine and ended up needing 22.5mg of Imovane (3x recommended dose) before I could finally fall asleep. I was stumbling, felt drunk etc. this morning 'til about 3pm, so that probably wasn't the greatest idea.

So what I'm wondering is whether it's likely dosing at 6pm is working against me?

Also, a lot of pharmacists here warn about use of Doxycalamine for more than 2 nights in a row, warning that it's highly addictive. Is there any conceivable logic behind this?

Based on SLS's suggestion, I've emailed my psychiatrist and asked him to look into Prazosin before our next appointment.
