Bipolar dx

I'm really having a difficult time working. I work in a high speed factory. My doctor gave me a diagnosis of bipolar nos. I'm 55 yrs old and I'm thinking about social security disability. Would they recognize bipolar nos? How hard would it be to get ss as I couldn't afford to live without it?
