Emsam and Elavil

Is this combo safe? I was taken off Celexa and Lamictal so as to start Maoi after two weeks-no titration btw, as I've mentioned before on another post. Got super depressed. Doctor put me Elavil in the interim till I can take the maoi. Im a little concerned because online it seems as though you can't combine the two. But he told me they have been doing it for 50 yrs. Obviously emsam hasn't been arouund that long but I get that he meant Maois in general.
Is this guy off his rocker-well he is but thats another story-or is it ok to take them together?
