Thanks for the replies.
So what are some of the other benefits of lithium, and have others experienced any memory issues?
At one time there was a theory of a maintenance dose for antidepressants. Now the consensus seems to be whatever dose got you out is what you should stay on. I was told by my pdoc that this is also true with lithium. However, there are some over the counter supplements that contain lithium at very small dosages that are for improving mood. I have no experience with these and don't know of anyone who has taken them.
I like the idea of lithium because it is a natural substance and perhaps it is a stretch but being a natural substance it may fit into the theory of orthomolecular psychiatry.
I'm just concerned about memory and cognitive issues because I am having a lot of those problems now. (current meds are Nortriptyline 150mg, valium 14mg, Seroquel 150-200 mg, all taken at bedtime, miralax to deal with the constipation issues of the meds.)
Sleep has been very erratic and irregular.
So for those that have taken lithium, were you able to lower the dosage and not have a relapse. My diagnosis is somewhat peculiar. No one thinks that I am bipolar; however, because I have a pattern of major recurrent depression the consensus is that a mood stabilizer is probably best. Lamictal gets mentioned a lot but I think I would prefer lithium.
