Unfortunately after your years on an ssri you more than likely have disrupted your dopamine system which in turn has has played havoc with healthy opiod production. Healthy opiod production relies on a healthy dopamine neuroendicine susbsystem. Some symtoms of a subpar opiod system would be thyroid problems, anxiety issues, and chronic aches and pains. You need to use hormones and or medications to try and rebalance your dopamine system. The smallest patch of emsam might help with dopamine rebalancing. In spite of dopamine rebalancing your opiod system may be permanently injured thru ssri insult and you would require permanent opiate supplementation (low dose ) to relieve your symptoms.
In spite of your p-doc being in the icu life moves on and you need a psychopharmacologist well versed in cutting edge philosophy and practices that would use opiates in their treatment.
I find it ironic that before the advent of modern psychiatry opiates were used for depression and a variety of mental disorders. A drug that comes from mother earth and is effective from day 1. Yet dispite billions spent by big pharm and a 100 years of research they have really not given us anything better than the opiates and in most cases vastly inferior. Makes you wonder. Maybe the answer was there all along!
Your task is to find a p-doc that is willing to work and think outside the box.
