In reply to NEED OPINIONS ON PARNATE!!!, posted by Cseagraves on January 13, 2009, at 19:11:30
I shall try to be somewhat brief. Was on every tricyclic known to man & none worked (this was 20 yrs ago). Went on Nardil & (AHA!) A drug that actually works! Was feeling so good decided to ween myself off..maybe I was ok after all. A year went by...more & more depressed. Went back on old Nardil (right before they changed it because I was considering getting my pilot's license). Life changed, got laid off, blah, blah, now it's the year 2008. Severely depressed...go to doc & got him to prescribe my old standby Nardil (even tho' I had read this post but at the time it seemed to be working for "some" people. Turns out I am not "some people". Didn't do a thing for me & I asked him to switch me to Parnate. At least I felt a bit better after a month (nothing compared to orig. Nardil or Parnate). Have now been on it about 4 months & it's lame. Got laid off, health ins. down the tubes, so I ordered it out of Canada (could it be a placebo??). Have done nothing but cry on a daily basis. (Was crying b4 I lost my job, fyi). I do not recommend the "New Parnate" unless they put you on a higher dosage that you know your body can take. I have just bumped mine up to 40mg/day. I am curious what dosage those of you that it works for are taking? I don't even have side effects (except for what a dr. once described as "bubbles", ie heartburn). Whoopee! Now I'm severely depressed & have bubbles if I don't eat (BTW, no weight gain).
If you've been on any of the old MAOI's I'm afraid you will be disappointed.
Sorry so long...any input?
Thx,Nikki
