In reply to lithium and zyprexa withdrawal, posted by Suziebell on October 20, 2008, at 14:02:53
I was only on low dose lithium for a few days, so that experience doesn't count.
As for zyprexa, I was on it for 8 years. That counts. It took about 2 months to carefully wean off, and honestly about 3 months after that to finally settle into a baseline where I was sure withdrawal adjustments were behind me. Of course, the new place I found myself was no nice place either, but at least I no longer needed zyprexa and the ill effects of getting off it (mostly anxiety) were behind me. So yes it can be done, easier for some than others. I suspect if a med is truly doing something to keep a disease at bay, then maybe that med could never be stopped unless it was replaced with something else to do a similar job. Or if some bright doctor were to figure out where the symptoms were coming from in the first place rather than just putting a label on it and trying to minimize the symptoms.
