Nefazodone is a strong serotonin 2A antagonist and weak serotonin reuptake inhibitor. So a little bit of what Prozac and Paxil do (inhibit serotonin reuptake) and a lot of a something different. Less likely to cause sexual dysfunction than SSRIs and none of the start up anxiety associated with SSRIs. Similar to trazodone expect trazodone also blocks histamine which makes it quite sedating.
Hope nefazodone works out well for you. You're right not to worry too much about liver problems as they are quite rare. Wikipedia says approximately one in 250,000 to 300,000 patient-years. It might be worth getting your liver enzymes checked just to be sure though.
> I was put on it unfortunately I was afraid of the liver enzymes since mine had gotten bad over the summer so never gave it a good trial. I think it's like an antihystamine not sure though. Keep us posted okay? Love Phillipa
