Actually, there is no established therapeutic blood levels for lithium when it is used for unipolar depression - unlike in bipolar disorder. One usually needs significantly less lithium to treat unipolar depression than what is used to treat bipolar disorder. Some studies at Harvard indicate that 300-600mg is effective.
- Scott> Li helped me, but not as much as I needed it to. It is worth a try. It is a good drug. Make sure your pdoc montiors your blood levels of the drug. 300 might not be in the therapeutic range (Li has a very specific range recommended for augmentation). Everyone is different, but I take 600 to keep me in the therapeutic range.
