I took Parnate for 8 months in 07... eventually settled at 30... took all 3 pills together early to try to avoid insomnia... had lots of strange side effects at beginning... remember the dry mouth and excessive urination especially... but they all eventually faded except for insomnia... that NEVER went away... HAD to take sleeping pills (zolpidem tartrate) or would NEVER have slept... got about 6 hours sleep on a good night... never dreamed on Parnate... no weight gain or loss, stayed the same... I wasn't ever "happy" but it did relieve my suicidal depression, make me calmer, and I didn't sleep my life away anymore (couldn't if I'd wanted to)
By far the worst thing that happened was a severe hypertensive crisis due to eating smoked bacon... worst most painful medical experience of my life... really lost my enthusiasm for Parnate after that... had necessary surgery recently and in preparation gradually got off Parnate so I could have anasthesia... am starting back up again right now, 3 weeks after surgery. The crying, weepy, irritable, tired all the time depressive symptoms sure came back with a vengeance... thought Parnate wasn't doing much but forgot how bad I really am without it. Just took a 10mg pill today. My dr. says go up 10 mg. every week; assume I'll wind up at 30 again. Waiting to see if all those side effects happen this time too. Will never forget how scary and painful that hypertensive crisis was... WATCH OUT for anything smoked. Best of luck to you.
