geodon, changing pdocs, what to do?

Posted by LlurpsieNoodle on June 19, 2007, at 3:04:06

Hi all,
I've been on geodon (240 or 180 mg) for about 4 months now. The first month I spent time every day (about 2 hours am, and 2 hours pm) in a stupor so profound that I couldn't hardly move my legs or keep my head up.

Then we figured out that I was dumping too much geodon into my system at once, so we split up my 240 dose into 4 pills a day. Combined with provigil, that I've been taking about a year, it helped a lot.

Since I've decreased to 180mg, I take 1 pill in the am, one pill with dinner, and one pill at bedtime. This is all fine and dandy, except that I have a REALLY hard time waking up the next am.

So, I tried a little experiment- I took 2 pills with dinner, and promptly fell into stupor about 30 minutes after dinner. Forced myself to wake up after an hour, then I summoned my leg muscles to propel me to the sink for the bare minimum toothbrushing and splash of water in the face-ing.

About 5 hours after going to bed for real, I find myself awake (here I am!) and wondering what it's going to take to get out of this mess with geodon.

1) maybe it's been a good AP for my flashbacks and intrusive thoughts (though not as good as seroquel, IMO)

2) with seroquel (300mg) at least I got over the sedation in a few weeks

3) this split dosing is a pain in the a$$.

4) short half-life of geodon makes me get brain zaps every evening before dinner.

So, I want to live my life, not tiptoe around my dosing schedule for geodon.

What are my other options (seroquel made me blubbery)? My old pdoc suggested that one of the challenges in this upcoming year is to get off of medications. Or at least off of APsychotics.

I got a touch of psychotic symptoms from PTSD, and a big dose of depression, and general anxieties related to primal fears of sorts. Old pdoc was trying to make the case that I might be treading somewhere on the bipolar spectrum because of my swings between depressed and anxious.

Right now, I find myself in between pdocs. My current medications include lamictal 300mg, and geodon 180 mg, provigil 200mg and klonopin (.25-.5 mg a day) occasional sleeping pills, such as sonata and rozerum.

I'm going to take a sonata now in fact, it should clear out of my system before I have to get up at 7am. love the sonata.

-Ll
