The first one is not a test for depression but shows which persons have genetic factors that might render SSRI's less ineffective or have high side effect rates. It does not identify which will work for a persons specific case or diagnose what kind of depression they have. From the website:
"It provides unique information relating to drug response: side effect and compliance".I think these kind of tests will be used quite a bit in the future once they become afforadable.
I am hearing they cost approx. $20,000 today.
CYP450 is just one of many isoenzymes that effect how a drug is metabolized. Once one can test for many isoenzymes and we have more complete information on how specific drugs are metabolized
these kind of tests could help guide med choices for all kinds of conditions.
