Lamictal and Lithium

I have had a hard time finding my own answer to this question, but I was wondering whether or not Lamictal and Lithium are in the same family of drugs.
Are the two even similar at all?

I too am on 200 mgs of Lamictal and do have the insomnia.

I have heard that if Lamictal doesn't work, than the next step is lithium.

I really don't understand how Lamictal or how lithim work, so any info would be helpful.
