Hey Lepus,
I'm in the same boat as you. I'm scared to death to take anything - that includes vitamin pills; and I even have moments when I won't eat something because I'm convinced I'll have an allergic reaction to it, although I know logically I'm not allergic to anything, not even dust/pollen/cats etc etc etc.
I would take a tiny dose. Talk to your pdoc about your fears - say you want to start at a tiny dose and take your first dose when you don't have anything to do and there is someone at home to help you. Then watch a light hearted movie (perhaps a comedy) or something to take your mind of it.
I think you have every right to be nervous about taking a med. I've also been 'burnt' by conventional meds and ended up in ER and things like that.
May I ask what caused your rash? I've also had rashes from meds.
BTW St John's Wort is pretty good for anxiety and depression and the side effects are very very mild, if non-existant.
Kind regards
Meri
