another option could be nadolol (corgard). There are less sideeffects, it is not metabolized by the liver and it lasts for 24 hours. Nadolol is not very effective to lower bloodpressure but it is effective to block adrenaline. It is an unselective betablocker tested and prescribed for longterm use. Nadolol is much less cardiodepressant than propranolol, thus less risk if you're having heart insufficiency. IMO propranolol should not be too easy prescribed by psychiatrists before checking the patients heart condition. There are positive studies for performance anxiety for nadolol. Ask your doc.
