In reply to Prozac and Buspar Dosage Ratio?, posted by Venus on May 19, 2006, at 22:46:08
> Hello!
> I am taking Buspar for anxiety and Prozac for severe depression (reoccuring suicidal thoughts), self-harm and obsessive compulsive behavior. Because I am very sensitive to medications at higher doses, I am taking liquid prozac at 1.2 mg a day, and 1.5 mg of Buspar a day. I have noticed that I feel a bit better on days when I am taking a little less Buspar. I have read that this drug combination is common, is there a standard doage given for the two in combo? I have read that some take 20mg Prozac and 15 mg Buspar (4:3 ratio) and others have taken 20mg Prozac and 5 mg Buspar (4:1) ratio. Can those of you taking both please tell what doage you are taking of each? I'm sure there's a ratio here that gives the best results. I know that when I have tried taking a lot of Buspar comparitively (2.5 mg) I get really suicidal and negative, so the balance must be very obvious to my brain. Thanks for any information in advance.I cannot give you an answer to your question regarding an optimal ratio, but I can comment on the observation that you feel worse when taking higher dosages of Buspar. One of the metabolites of Buspar, 1-PP, has the ability to act like Remeron by antagonizing NE alpha-2 receptors. This can worsen depression in some people. The higher the dosage of Buspar, the higher the level of the metabolite and its ratio to the parent molecule.
