Hi Marty.
There is evidence that memantine will help opioids work better as pain medications. However, there is less evidence regarding its addition to stimulants.
Adding memantine to Parnate might help. When I added memantine 20mg to imipramine and Lamictal, I responded to it briefly. I doubt memantine will produce any adverse reactions. In Germany, where memantine has been available for over 10 years, some doctors do use it to treat depression. However, it is probably of limited value because it is used so little. Unfortunately, there are not many investigations in American medical literature to evaluatate its efficacy in the treatment of depression. The one study performed by the NIH failed to demonstrate efficacy.
I guess the bottom line is that there are no disadvantages to adding memantine to Parnate other than its cost. There is very little scientific evidence that it is effective in the treatment of major depressive disorder. However, there are a few reports of its use in Germany.
