I saw a mood and anxiety disorders specialist last year-- one of the best on the west coast-- who told me that xanax (as well as tricyclics) should never be used in bipolar patients because they trigger cycling, esp. mania. i didn't believe it, so it's interesting to hear your story. do tell your dr so you can get on something that helps you without all that comes with it.
