Today, my guess is that Trileptal (oxcarbazepine) has replaced Tegretol as the first choice due to its milder side effect profile. With Tegretol, there is a very small risk for the development of agranulocytosis, which is a condition of abnormal white blood cell development. Tegretol requires biweekly blood-tests to screen for this condition. The only concern with Trileptal is that some people develop a reduction of serum sodium. Increasing salt intake and drinking less water should be sufficient as a prophylactic to prevent this from happening. It is probably a good idea to check from time to time with a blood test.

I understand that Trileptal is less likely to react with other meds...and also I am on different meds then when on the Tegretol. More experiments...but fight the good fight, right? Thanks for your help...
