> I've read a lot about NMDA antagonists(memantine, amantadine) preventing tolerance to amphetamines. I've also seen a lot of people here suggest it to others but haven't seen any who actually did it. Has anyone here actually taken adderral or dexedrine with it and prevented tolerance? I am treatment-resistant, nothing works, or barely works, and if it does, it don't work for long. I would like to try one of these drugs with memantine if it really works. Who knows, if I'm lucky it might actually help my depression.
I have tried the Namenda (aka Memantine)-Adderall combination, and have posted several times, but strangely few have responded to my posts.
Anyway, my experimentation has led me to the following conclusions: I have to take a relatively high dose of Namenda (40-70 mg) in conjunction with a high dose of Adderall (60-70 mg). Namenda seems to slow down the development of Adderall-tolerance and enhances Adderall's effects somewhat.
If you're expecting to be able to take Adderall every day, 5-7 days a week and for the good effects to never diminish, I have bad news for ya. I doesn't work that way. Not even Namenda can make this happen.
For me, taking 40 mg of Namenda + 60-70 mg of Adderall enables me to work a good 4-5 hours every day, but after it wears off..........fog. And even if I increase the dosage on a given day from 60 to 100 or so -- in other words abuse it -- then the good effects are almost neglegible. It's that initial dosage in the morning that is most effective for me.
Keep in mind that it is effective for 4-5 hours, even after the third or fourth week in a row with 0-1 days off per week. So you could argue that 4-5 good hours/day are better than 0 good hours/day.
If you have take Adderall, then I definitely recommend adding Namenda, but don't expect any miracles.
Oh and BTW, Namenda is very expensive.
