I would have to say that probably Trazodone was the only AD that didn't seem to "set off" anything, but it didn't work as an antidepressant either for me. I was taking it for sleep only (up to 100mg hs at one point) and it didn't even work for my sleep maintenance issues (I just went to sleep even faster, but that wasn't the problem anyhow) and left me hung over the next day.

Remeron and Wellbutrin didn't seem to set off CYCLING, but they DID set off a consistently irritable/agitated and sometimes euphoric state.

Nortriptyline was fairly benign actually.

Never tried any MAOI's.

SSRI's seem to be the definite cycling champions, and I've been on all of those.

To assume that one particular class of med will induce mania and this particular class will not for *all* patients would be foolish. You really can't tell until you take them, IMO.
