Sibutramine (Meridia / Reductil) and depression

Posted by ed_uk on December 20, 2004, at 18:27:12

Hi,

Sibutramine (Meridia / Reductil) is a serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor, it also inhibits dopamine reuptake to a lesser extent. It is used as a treatment for obesity. Suprisingly, the development of sibutramine as an antidepressant was discontinued due to apparant lack of efficacy in clinical trials.

Has anyone ever found sibutramine to be a useful treatment for depression?

Ed.
