After several discussions with my pdoc we agreed that after three + years of being on Effexor 300 mg that it was finally time to move on. I think I have just peaked out and it has lost it's effectiveness consistently. I expressed my DEEP concerns about coming off Effexor (called it crack...lol) and SI that comes with the well-known brain zaps so he said to go ahead and start the Lamictal and keep taking the Effexor too. Once the Lamictal has started working, we will work on getting off the Effexor. My concerns are of course, side effects. I had never heard of Lamictal before today. I am BPII and have been thru almost every medication at some point or another. Some worked for a while, some did nothing but make me gain weight (lots). Weight gain at this point is unacceptable, but from what I read it shouldn't be an issue. Any other side effects? He told me about the rash that was supposedly a "rare" side effect (but I read that 1 in 10 get it to some degree). Any input appreciated.
